A project on the importance of wetlands I made for my Gifted and Talented Science course in 7th Grade.

What do Venus Fly Traps, water lilies, sedges, cattails, and mangroves have in common? What do dragonflies, shrimp, fish, frogs, newts, turtles, snakes, alligators, crocodiles, storks, and beavers have in common? Wetlands!
Wetlands are areas of land that are saturated with water year-round or seasonally, forming transition zones between land and water bodies. Marshes, bogs, and swamps are the most common type of wetlands. Wetlands, like rainforests and coral reefs, are among the most productive ecosystems in the world. An immense variety of microbes, plants, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, and mammals are dependent on wetlands.
Wetlands are valuable as they perform free ecological services by filtering toxins to improve water quality, control the flow of nutrients, provide fish and wildlife with habitat, store floodwaters and release them during dry periods. They also provide people with food such as berries and fish. They also provide us with areas for recreation, fishing, education, and research.
