A description of my favorite place in the world.

11/02/2018

Walking through a tunnel of overhanging green,

Polished longboard held high.

I am greeted by an azure scene,

Sans any puffs in the sky.

Colored sails dot the distant horizon,

Bobbing on a glistening sheet.

Ochre grains, warm as the golden Sun,

Tumble in crevices of my feet.

Laden with salt, the crisp air rushes,

Into my expanded chest.

A tangle of leathery kelp gushes.

Fishy scents in the breeze rest.

Fading footprints on the washed shore,

Tell of sweet whisperings long gone by.

Ripple marks on the sandy floor,

Where grooved shells ‘n’ milky sea glass lie.

Wind sailing through a conch’s spirals,

Mimics the Ocean’s soul.

Sweetness of tender Coconut rivals,

Ambrosia of Olympians ole.

Chatty fishermen haul in Seiners,

Swollen with the night’s catch.

Cacophony of seagulls and fulmars,

Fight to Mackerel snatch.

Sanderlings at the water’s edge scurry,

Feasting on sand fiddlers.

Mesmerizing tide pools flurry,

Teeming with anemones and oysters.

Oh! What treasures the sandy shores hold.

Precious and rare, sparking the imagination.

Twists of driftwood shaped by waters cold.

Smooth pebbles polished to perfection.

Abalone shells with a nacreous belly.

Broken branches of corals intricate.

Sea stars with arms like jelly.

Sand dollars with patterns that radiate.

Camouflaged eggs of the speckled Snowy Plover.

Jagged tooth of a mighty shark white.

Stranded dainty By-the-Wind Sailor.

A shell-swapping Hermit crab in flight.

Jangle of shells are flung and drawn in,

With every wash of the wave.

Cool fingers foam around ankles tuggin’,

Luring me to the deepest blue cave.

A ray of sunny vermilion streaks,

Through my shut lashes.

The distant roar of a Barrel breaks,

And onto itself crashes.

Salty spray stings my eyes,

When the waxed board hits the splash.

Arms paddle briskly through the rise,

As racy waves against the surface lash.

Watchful seals roll at a distance,

Curious Cormorants crane their necks.

Floating otters crack clams with persistence,

A Hungry gull at barnacle pecks.

I sit astride my trusty rider,

And scan the distance for a Set.

One promising many a thrilling maneuver,

That would make my day, Oh, just perfect!
